The purpose of this lesson is to learn to recognize, and say the name of each animal, and to notice things about the animal appropriate to the language level development of the student.
Exercise:
Notice the animal. What is it’s name? For alphabet learners: What letter does the animal’s name begin with? Pronounce the (letter and) the animal’s name. What do you notice about this animal?
Teach by: 1) showing the student how to do it, 2) doing the exercise together with the student and then 3) allowing the student to do it on his own, until he or she can name, describe with detail using specific vocabulary, each of the animals in the video. Some vocabulary words would be, for example: horns, fur, teeth, and the many colors of the animal kingdom. The student who is learning English as a second language should compare the English words to those in his native language.
